I have been slacking off my blog posts lately. It was because Kliven poured all his cup contents on my laptop which resulted to its breakdown and had to be rushed for repair. Unfortunately, the repair took the longest time thus the blog "rest" so to speak. But I'm back and I couldn't be any happier. Last weekend, I had my hair rebonded after 2 years. I was really planning to have my hair done earlier but had to wait when my kids got a bit older to avoid problems with time and breastfeeding. Here are basic things to remember when you have rebonded hair:
1. After you have your hair rebonded, please try to avoid washing it for the first 3 days to let all the chemicals soak in the hair. It can get sticky and icky but it's all for the best. Mine fell short of 3 days because I couldn't bear the stickiness. Luckily, there weren't any drastic results, it was still straight, soft and shiny afterwards.
2. Avoid the pool and swimming after a rebond. Chlorine has a not so good effect on chemically treated hair making it dry and frizzy.
3. Do not tuck your hair behind your ears or tie it at least for a week after the procedure.
4. When sleeping, do not just lie down and that's it. Make sure that your hair is not trapped in a weird angle destroying its shape and straightness.
5. When you do wash your hair after 3 days, use only conditioner to moisturize hair. I think it all depends on your hair stylist. Others recommend washing it with shampoo and conditioner after 3 days.
6. Once a week, use deep conditioner. And after towel drying hair, use leave on conditioner or hair serum to make up for lost moisture adding shine to the hair.
7. Do not overdo the conditioner. I used to load up on hair conditioner but my hair got really heavy and sticky because of it. Just apply a good amount after every wash but not too much.
8. Do not use too much hair dryer when drying the hair. At times when using a hair dryer is unavoidable, just use the cold air function to dry the air. Better yet, use your trusty electric fan.9. Avoid too much hair brushing. It causes hair breakage and hair fall. When hair is still wet, avoid brushing it. Use a wide-tooth comb instead.
10. Other chemical treatments after a rebonding procedure is not a good idea. Stay away from another rebonding preocedure or coloring your hair for 6 months to a year to let your hair rest and to avoid further damage.
11. You can steam your hair at home. Just deep condition hair and dip towel in warm water and wrap around hair. This should be done every 15 days.
12. If there's a need to iron hair, use a ceramic flat iron.
13. A good balanced diet is important for shiny, bouncy and healthy hair. So eat protein rich foods like nuts, sprouts and red meat for beautiful hair.
14. Consider having your hair trimmed for at least every 3 months or so to eliminate split-ends and other damage along the end

15. Choose the right hair products for rebonded hair. I once tried L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner, but I don't think my hair loved it. It got really dry and frizzy. So, I'm using Creamsilk soft and smooth conditioner now and Sunsilk Straight and Sway shampoo alternating it with any other shampoo for straight hair every week. Since it's not advisable to use a shampoo brand for the longest period, allowing hair to get used to it making it unresponsive and dull. For my leave on conditioner, I use Vitress hair cuticle coat.
I hope these tips are helpful. Let's keep our hair beautiful!
